About Us 

We are a UK based seed and grain merchant specialising in the trade, import, and export of cereals, oilseeds and pulses. Saxon Agriculture are at the forefront of the UK’s agricultural seed market, whilst our farm traders and agents work alongside our growers throughout the season. Offering innovative marketing strategies, we provide farmers and grain consumers effective risk management amidst global market volatility.

About the role 

As part of the Quality Assurance team the Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for the day to day operation of the grain quality testing laboratory, and for assisting the Trading and Buying team in administering the grain quality management program for the receival, storage and outturn of grain from sites within in the relevant area.

Primary accountabilities will include:

  • Administration of grain quality testing systems and related technology in the laboratory, including development and implementation thereof
  • Performing routine quality control analysis accurately on Seed, Grain, Pulses and Oilseeds
  • Effective management of casual staff and maintenance of appropriate staffing levels in the laboratory
  • Work with Trading and Buying team, agents and customers to ensure effective and accurate sharing of quality control information
  • Maintain and calibrate quality testing equipment
  • Commitment to Saxon Agriculture’s Safety, Health and Environment strategy and its full implementation in the laboratory harmonious working environment 

About your Knowledge, Skills and Experience. Our ideal candidate will have the following; -

  • Relevant knowledge of grain quality testing systems and procedures
  • Experience or knowledge of laboratory or Quality Control environment
  • Experience or knowledge of agriculture
  • Aptitude to learn and attend training courses if required
  • Sound customer and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Strong organisational skills and a knowledge of auditing procedures
  • Ability to work accurately in a fast-paced, busy environment
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Self-motivated and able to work under own initiative
  • Financial expenditure and operational budget control and reporting
  • Good computer skills
  • Driver’s licence

In addition to providing proof of working rights and suitable professional referees, preferred candidates will be required to undertake a pre-employment medical. A current, valid driver’s licence is also required.
