History

Saxon Agriculture was established in June 1993 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Moray Firth Maltings PLC. In March 1999 Saxon Agriculture became part of Bairds Malt Ltd, following the unison of Moray Firth Maltings and Hugh Baird and Sons.

In November 2009 Bairds Malt Ltd was acquired, as part of United Malt Holdings, by GrainCorp Ltd, Saxon Agriculture’s international parent agribusiness listed on the Australian Securities Exchange.

Over the last 26 years Saxon Agriculture has maintained unwavering focus on passions for customer service, quality assurance, innovative solutions and growth. Keeping close to these core passions has seen Saxon Agriculture grow into a distinct UK trading and merchanting business with:

Domestic and international reach – national UK upstream (buying) and downstream (consumer selling) network coupled with UK import / export operation; and

Integrated operations – seed sales and contract seed production, merchanting of cereals and pulses, organic grain and feed product merchanting, and inhouse supply chain logistics, quality assurance and compliance management

Consequently, Saxon Agriculture has grown from 3 to 35 employees based across two UK office locations (Swaffham, Norfolk, and Tadcaster, Yorkshire), including a quality testing laboratory in Swaffham.

In 2014, Saxon Agriculture became the UK based trading hub for GrainCorp’s international grain trading division, in doing so connecting Saxon Agriculture’s UK network with GrainCorp’s operations in continental Europe, Black Sea precinct, North America and Australasia.

In September 2019, Saxon Agriculture Ltd was established as its own distinct UK trading business. Fully funded and supported from parent company GrainCorp, Saxon Agriculture remains focussed on its passions and continuing to develop alongside its customers and suppliers.
